Orthopaedic oncology focuses on tumours of bone and soft tissue. A consultation may be appropriate if:

  • An X-ray or MRI report mentions a lesion, mass or abnormal area in a bone
  • A lump in the limb or trunk is growing, deep, or larger than a few centimetres
  • You have been told a tumour is suspected and want a specialist opinion
  • A previous operation or biopsy gave unclear results
  • You are a parent or relative looking for guidance on a young person’s bone pain with an abnormal scan

It is reasonable to seek an opinion early. Many findings turn out to be harmless, and early clarity reduces anxiety. Bring all scans, reports and previous records to the visit.
